A Few Words About Doug
Doug Hocking is the Property Owner representative on the Ausable Bayfield Maitland Valley Drinking Water Source Protection Committee (SPC). He has Bachelor of Science in Agriculture (Honours Program) and Bachelor of Arts degrees from the University of Guelph.
Doug is a long-time resident of Exeter who was raised on a farm in West Perth and who also lived in Listowel.
Doug was a Conservation Ontario delegate to the Technical Committee for the Walkerton Inquiry, presided over by Commissioner Dennis R. O’Connor, Justice of the Court of Appeal for Ontario, after the Walkerton water contamination tragedy of 2000.
Before retirement, Doug worked for more than 30 years in water quality stewardship at Ausable Bayfield and Maitland Valley conservation authorities. In his career, he worked in close partnership with many property owners including agricultural producers, shoreline residents, and other urban and rural landowners. He has worked with property owners on septic system and well upgrades, cover crops, tree planting, runoff and erosion control and other water quality enhancement projects.
In his work he also took and analyzed thousands of surface water and sediment samples from agricultural drains, rivers and Lake Huron for water quality research.
